The Ladies Section gets together at least 3 times a week, all year round for a variety of competitions, team matches, knockouts, mixed and individual events, fun golf, and much more.
Our calendar is packed with opportunities for women golfers to play, compete, and have fun with their fellow members.
We’ve gathered over 1,500 photos capturing unforgettable moments from our golfing adventures! Take a look and see what our amazing ladies have been up to over the years – celebrating successes, sharing laughs, and making lasting memories on and off the course.
Our group of golfing ladies is based at the Chesfield Downs Golf Club in Graveley, Hertfordshire. Ideal for golfers in Hitchin, Letchworth, Stevenage, Knebworth, Welwyn, and surrounding towns. With golf fixtures organised all through the year, at least three times a week, our diverse calendar ensures there’s something for every golfer. Whether you prefer weekday or weekend play, fun or competitive golf, 9 or 18 holes, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to enjoy the game alongside your fellow members.
Qualifiers and trophy competitions are mainly played every Thursday and at weekends with tee times starting from 9:20am. We also host special events including Charity Days, Captain's Day, Spring/Autumn Meetings.
Tuesday tee times are from 9.28am and are reserved for more relaxed golf, with fun formats like Bingo Bongo Bango. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the game with other members, free from the pressure of competition.
If you prefer a shorter round we have monthly qualifiers and weekly reserved tee times for 9-hole play. The club also hosts 9-hole twilight events in the summer for members and visitors with a meal and prizes.
There's plenty of golf to be played throughout the winter months including a 12-hole eclectic, special festive events, and a mixed weekend winter league, so you can keep your skills sharp all year round.
We have teams representing the club in both friendly and competitive inter-club matches including Hertfordshire Golf's Pearson Trophy and Ovaltine League. We also play a biennial "Solheim Cup" against The Essex.
We aim to provide our members with a well-rounded experience both on and off the course. We have theatre trips, afternoon teas, Rummikub, book club, walking groups, golf holidays abroad, and more.
We’re always eager to welcome and encourage new women golfers, so if you need a playing partner for a practice round, we have ladies ready to join you for a game and help you get comfortable on the course. If you’d like help getting a handicap, we can pair you with a partner to assist in marking your scorecard and offer guidance on the rules of golf and course etiquette.
We’re committed to making our section as inclusive and accessible as possible, so the handicap limit for our competitions is 54, with only a few exceptions.
Chesfield Downs has everything you need to improve your game, from a driving range equipped with heated bays and Toptracer technology, to dedicated chipping and putting areas and practice nets. You can also book lessons or join a ladies golf clinic through the Jo Oliver Golf Academy, led by Jo Oliver, a former tour professional with 16 years on the Ladies European Tour.
