Chesfield Downs Ladies Section

Captain's Newsletter - 2 Apr 2016

I cannot believe I am already a quarter of the way through my Captaincy year! The summer season officially starts with……

Captains’ Drive In

Saturday 9th April. Shotgun start at 8am, followed by food and the exciting launch of the season Drive In by all the Section Captains. There are just a couple of spaces remaining on the Sign Up sheet on the Social Notice Board

Thursday 14th April – Jubilee Jug
Less than 2 weeks until the ladies Jubilee Jug event celebrates 25 years of Chesfield Downs. A pairs betterball format with a super silver themed Afternoon Tea to follow. If you would like to dress the part (in silver theme of course) there will be a prize for the “best dressed”.

If you know any of our ladies who are not playing golf at the moment but would like to come for afternoon tea and a catch up, please let them know they can join us for tea.

Thank You – Patti Vincent gave up chocolate for Lent, saving every penny she would normally have spent in her chocoholic world to raise an amazing £92. She has donated this to my Captain’s Charity – The Garden House Hospice in Letchworth. Thank you Patti. You can go back to eating (and drinking) chocolate now.

Walking the Bridges of London – Chris Bryce has her team of 10 walkers (although if you are interested I am sure you can still go with them) Good luck with the fundraising and the walk on Sunday 8th May.

InterClub Matches – Our Pearson Team this week were up against very strong opponents from Bishops Stortford. I am delighted to report that it was an extremely close game, with 4 matches going to the 18th hole. We were just beaten 4 matches to 3. But, oh so close! Really well done to all the Team.

GOLF RESULTS
7-Day – Our hardy 7-day golfers set off on Sunday to play our first weekend ladies Stableford qualifier. But storm Katie came early!! Horizontal rain, hailstones and 50mph wind created huge problems with our scores. Winner on countback was Linda Brown, who just pipped Lin Goodey into 2nd place.

Tuesday – No competition this week.

Thursday – This week we played Aussie Rules. A tough format – playing with an understanding friend is essential. Congratulations to the winners of the Maria Moore Millennium Bowl with 60 points – Mary Hooper and Barbara Baldwin. 2nd Di Rogers and Lesley Bonser, 3rd Rogie Taylor and Lauren Pitcher.
