Captain's Newsletter - 28 March 2021

Only 1 more sleep till GOLF!

I expect the golf clubs have been polished and you are ready to go! ‘The Golf God’ on the weather channel looks like he/she is with us, so go and enjoy yourselves, remember to take plenty of fluids, sun cream and a hat. Pick and place will remain in play until 1st April 2021, however this will be reviewed and may be extended.

Scratch Team

Unfortunately, Sally is unable to be captain for the scratch team this season. Thank you, Sally for all your hard work. The scratch team will be run by Jackie R and Sarah who have very kindly stepped into the scratch captains shoes for the season. Well done ladies. Many thanks. First scratch match:
Sunday 2nd May – Harpenden Common v Chesfield Downs at home

Birdie Badges

Our Birdie badges will start again from Thursday 8th April. Any lady who gained a Birdie badge last year will be awarded their badge at a date TBC (after 21st June). As we have no record of these badges in the birdie book due to government restrictions last year it will be those of you who can remember if you got one!

County Golf Cards Go Digital

From 2021 onwards the County Card can now only be obtained via the igcounty app.
The app offers a host of other features, including news, upcoming and past competitions, contact details and County contact details. The card holder is entitled to:
Receive reduced green fees at host participating clubs (the usual reduction is to the Members Guest Rate and in some cases lower than that price)
The scheme is not just restricted for use within Hertfordshire

To download the app go to;

https://www.hertfordshiregolf.org/download_the_app and follow instructions.

Scoring on IG

If like me you suddenly start to think, I can’t remember how to score, what is my new handicap. Please do not worry, there is always someone to help. Its been a long time since we last used the IG App for scoring, and it will take us all a little while to get back in the saddle. If you have any problems just make sure you fill in your scorecard and photograph it. We can go over the card and provide one to one support. It’s a learning curve for us all. IG have supplied us with a very useful updated igMember WHS Scoring Instructional Video. To view it go to:

On another note I am also aware I have a lovely parking space which will be great. However, the pressure is on to always have a clean car! I have therefore allocated this highly important task to Mr H, so if you notice he is not pulling his weight, please take your complaint directly to him.

Can’t wait to see you out on the course this week!

Kind regards
Pauline Humphrey
