Captain's Newsletter - 9 July 2018

Big week this week so forgive a slightly lengthy update!

Round 2 of the Club Champs on Thursday was played under beautiful blue skies with high temps again. With the course further drying out on an hourly basis it was tight at the top but I am delighted to announce that Karen Morton won the Angela Chatterton Handicap Trophy with a magnificent nett 63 and a handicap cut of 4 shots, and Virginia Chan once again took top spot in the gross competition shooting a gross 76 (yes, gross 76!) Big congratulations to you both and to everyone who took part this year. There have been some big handicap cuts this year so far so let’s keep it going….

Thanks go again to Barry and his team for providing us all with a wonderful fizzy afternoon tea, organising the warm up balls on the range and keeping us topped up with water on the course! It was again a fab day….what a great bunch we are!!

Many congratulations too to Caroline Kaswaurere who shot a nett 62 last weekend in the Weekend Medal and had a handicap cut of 4 stokes to get down to 23….what a round!

The Friendly Team played an away match at Mowsbury on Tuesday. Unfortunately we suffered a whitewash (very unlike Chesfield!)but no excuses the Ladies used their home advantage to full effect! Thanks to all who played on the day and the next Friendly is home to Heydon Grange on Wednesday this week.

The Scratch team played a home match v Brickendon Grange on Friday and had a fantastic and hard fought 4-1 win! Very well done girls, keeps us in with a chance of the playoffs! We have a return match away at Brickendon next Friday 13th.

Although the winter seems a long way away now the results of the Pearson Trophy are as follows. Even though we didn’t make the final Megan and her squad represented us with pride and tenacity in a very tough season. Well done all and roll on the next one…!

Semi-Finals
Berkhamsted v Brocket Hall
Hadley Wood v East Herts

Final: Berkhamsted v East Herts

Winner: Berkhamsted

The Junior Captain James Wilson is holding his Charity Day on Sat 21st July in aid of Prostate Cancer. The Sign up sheet is on the club notice board if you wish to play but he also has lots of raffle prizes as well so perhaps a chance to make a donation to help out the boys in our lives who could be affected by this horrible disease. If you want any more info please let me know.

I have just finished writing this as England defeat Sweden to reach the semi finals of the World Cup – fantastic news for all involved and for us as fans! Perhaps football really is coming home…!!

Have a great week, keep enjoying the sunshine, the golf, the footie, the tennis and everything else you do…
